The World Karate Federation reacted with delight at the announcement of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee to support the proposal to include Karate to the programme of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
The Executive Board of the IOC informed today after its meeting in Lausanne that it will endorse the plan to add Karate as new sport in the 2020 Olympic Games in the Japanese capital. This proposal will now be submitted for approval to the IOC Session to be held in Rio de Janeiro in August.
“The resolution adopted today by the Executive Board of the IOC is a great step towards the final decision to be taken in Rio de Janeiro. The ratification of this proposal will represent a historic occasion for all Karatekas around the world to be part of the Olympic dream under the WKF”, declared the WKF President Mr. Antonio Espinós.
